Opening:

1. Pair up and discuss your responses to the Quickwrites on page 18.

Work Period:

2. As we read, do the following:

  • How do authors create realistic characters?  As we read "A Hundred Bucks of Happy," take notes on the narrator in the "My Notes" section.
  • What do the choices of the narrator reveal about this character? Highlight the choices the character makes throughout the narrative. (Look for eight choices)
Closing:
3.  In your small group, review the choices that the narrator makes.  Orally retell the sequence of events - so far.
  • Use transitional words from the poster to retell the sequence of events.
